It is obvious to tow a trailer with the pedelec. However, you can ride a non-motorized bike. Or do you need another non-motorized bicycle in addition to the pedelec. This also applies to every other driver. With the electrail drive, you simply continue to use your bike as usual. With the electrail system, the weight of the battery and motor is in the trailer and is therefore only transported if it is necessary for transport purposes.
Apart from the high price, cargo bikes are large, heavy and bulky. Even without a load, a lot of mass has to be moved and there must be enough space to park it. The same loads can be transported with the significantly cheaper electrail system. If you don't have anything to transport, you can still enjoy riding your beloved bike.

The electrail kit is suitable for trailers where the drive wheel is attached to the frame on both sides. The wheel mount on the trailer has two dropouts. A nut is tightened to the left and right of the drive wheel, just like on a bicycle. The Kit X also contains a swing arm for trailers whose wheels are mounted on one side (thru axle). A special wheel fork is required for such trailers, which is inserted into the axle box in place of the original wheel and fastened at a second point in order to support the torque of the engine. The function of this wheel fork is to hold the drive wheel on both axle ends.
The Kit X also comes with a specially manufactured wheel mount. It is necessary so that the drive wheel can be attached on both sides. This makes the Kit X more complex to produce.
First of all, we would like to point out that our drive was designed and designed for use on a trailer with a low drawbar. A special coupling is not absolutely necessary. Your trailer hitch should be designed anyway, e.g. to withstand emergency braking of the vehicle combination when coasting and the acceleration of a sporty driver when pulling. In such situations, significantly higher forces are briefly transmitted than by the thrust of an electrail drive. As a rule, the electrail drive not only relieves the driver during operation, but also the drawbar. Irrespective of this, we are happy to recommend high-quality couplings that are robust and free of play and offer excellent ease of use.
Your trailer will not be converted. Our system is designed in such a way that you can install and remove the drive wheel yourself in just a few simple steps. In doing so, we use the properties of the trailer and do not make any changes to the trailer itself. Nevertheless, you are welcome to commission us with the installation if you wish.
Here you have to differentiate between the warranty for the trailer and the warranty for the drive. Many trailer manufacturers limit their warranty obligations if something is changed in the design of their product. This also affects our statutory warranty for the electrail drive.
Before setting off, first switch on the controller on the battery in the trailer (comparable to a car: ignition on). Then attach the pedal radio to the left pedal crank of the bicycle and switch it on (in the car: start the starter, the engine is idling). The pedal radio automatically connects to the control system in the trailer via radio. When you start driving, you will feel the drive that starts with the pedal crank movement. Experience has shown that our customers quickly learn how to operate the system and can intuitively master the system after just a few trips. Similar to a pedelec, you determine the speed by pedaling and receive additional support up to 25 km/h. At speeds above 25 km/h, the drive switches off. Even if you stop pedaling below 25 km/h, the boost stops immediately. Pedal again and off you go with the electric tailwind. If you want to switch off the electric drive while driving and only drive with muscle power, then make a backward movement with the pedal crank. When repeating the same electrically assist. In this area you can also get along well with the electrail drive and with appropriate, light pedal assistance you can also reach 25km/h. If the total weight is higher and/or the pedal assistance is low, the motor will continue to push you, but you will reach a lower speed. Please note that the higher load must also be braked with the brakes of a suitable bicycle.
With the electrail system, only one of the two trailer wheels is motorized. One could therefore perhaps think that this leads to a one-sided bicycle load and a strange riding experience. In practice, however, this is not noticeable. This is because the transverse forces that occur are negligible and do not affect the handlebars. In the turn, additional thrust results in a slightly larger turn radius. However, this applies to all two-wheelers with a motor, whether with or without a trailer. We recommend cornering with little or no pedal crank movement.
For reasons of driving dynamics, we only recommend the electric drive for trailers with a low drawbar. The thrust of the trailer with a low drawbar acts on the rear axle. The transverse force on the bike is very low and does not impair handling. With a high drawbar, the forces are significantly less favourable. Especially when cornering, thrust forces from the trailer can significantly impair driving stability.
The legal regulations can also vary from country to country within the EU. In Germany there is still no special law for bicycle push trailers. That's why we adhere to the EU standard EN15194, which standardizes the electrical power and is sometimes colloquially referred to as the Pedelec Directive. It includes, among other things, - that the electrical support may only be provided when pedalling, - the maximum rated power may be 250 watts, - and the maximum electrically assisted speed is 25km/h. Pedelecs with these performance criteria are equated with bicycles according to Section 1 Paragraph 3 of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations. You therefore do not need a driver's license, a helmet or an insurance number to drive a pedelec. The pedelec standard 2002/24/EG deals with vehicle types and, according to Article 1, also applies to vehicles with four wheels. An e-motorized combination of bicycle and trailer has three or four wheels and thus fits into the norm - regardless of where the drive is located. Please note that other limit values or regulations may apply in EU countries apart from Germany
Our rule of thumb is 50km with a total trailer weight of 50kg. As with a pedelec, the range also depends on the speed, your pedaling power, the route profile, wind, temperatures and the age of the battery. Some of our customers even cover more than 100 km with one battery charge. You can also increase the range of your drive by taking a spare battery with you.
We use high-quality LiCoMn batteries for energy storage, which are contacted by our supplier using a special welding process. All batteries have built-in BMS (battery management system), i.e. electronic cell monitoring, overcharge protection and deep discharge protection. We use chargers with moderate charging currents in order to keep the battery life as long as possible.
Our batteries have a capacity of 13 Ah. A standard charger with an output of 2 amperes (2A) therefore needs a good six hours to fully charge an almost empty battery. With a charging current of 4 A, the charging process only takes about three hours.
